Weekends Are For Doing Things You Might Regret

It’s only Wednesday but that doesn’t mean you can’t prepare yourself for some fun this weekend! Weekends should not be taken for granted – it’s a two day vacation from the long five day week of work, school, or any other weekly events in your life. Take advantage of the two days and do something to reward yourself – pick up a hobby, get really drunk, finish a project, read a book, or soak in the beautiful sun(if you have any sun).

Here is a previous article on how to enjoy California a bit more(such as finding events/shows nearby)  but here are some other links that hopefully find you a new way to enjoy the weekends from anywhere you are:

Barspace.tv – A new website for you bar lovers. Barspace.tv is a social networking website that offers live webcams at their bars(so you can see how the crowd is or to turn on and watch while drinking a beer…how depressing). Besides the cams, they also offer vouchers and a list of events around your area.

Meetup – A website that promotes social interaction with like minded folks. They offer tons of groups that should fill in any particular interest in your life. The website is usually for 30-40+ year olds but there are some 20-30 groups as well as 50+. From sports game at the beach to movie viewings – they have it all to help you meet new friends and find new interests.

Yelp – In case you have been living under a rock, Yelp is the leading force online for reviews on local restaurants, bars, venues, spas, and so much more. Yelp is also a good website for coupons and discounts as of late – sign up for their newsletter to get special offers and deals.

Not So Boring Life / Discover A Hobby/ Find Me A Hobby– Interested in staying home instead? These websites are dedicated to almost any hobby you can think of – so check it out and see if anything piques your interest!  Check out this hobby test on CNN to find out what hobby you may be interested in.

REI – Yes, REI is a retail and online store that sells outdoor products but they do also offer classes(some free, some not) that utilizes their experts to teach you useful information for activities you may be interested in.

If what you’re looking for are specific events such as concerts, shows, bands, exhibits, and so on – then either check your local listing or read this previous article.

Now it’s time to wait for the weekend to arrive…

Impulsive Buyers Inquire Within

Do you have an impulsive personality? Can you resist a good deal? I once bought ten keyboards for $20 simply because it was a great deal – I am a sucker for great deals. If you’re anything like me, you too will enjoy these websites that tug at your heart-strings of good deals. Beware though, impulsive online shopping can lead to cold sweats, anxiety, and bed sores.

Woot – A classic website that introduces a new deal everyday. Everyday at 10pm PST, a new deal is on their front page for all to impulsively buy. From HDtvs to a stuffed monkey, they have it all. This is actually the website where I bought the ten keyboards – I still have them now. Yeah, I really had no idea what I would do with ten keyboards. Be sure to check Woot’s sister sites with the similar concepts that fills a niche: shirts, wine, kid products, and sellout.

Amazon Goldbox – Ran by the internet giant, Amazon, Goldbox offers a daily deal on a vast variety of its good. If you have Amazon Prime, you’ll be extra happy. Here is a previous blog article about obtaining Amazon Prime. You can also sign up for an e-mail subscription so Amazon will notify you when they have a new deal up.

Midnight Box – Similar to Woot but different deals – right now they have a fake fireplace that doubles as a heater, HOW AWESOME IS THAT?!

Bargain Jack – Not so much a daily deal but an aggregator of deals. You can also search for products in case you were hoping to score a cheap GPS or pony.

Welcome to the dark side of impulsive purchasing. You’ll enjoy your stay here with me. Muahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahaha!

California is a Place

Ever curious about the small stories around California that you never hear about? This Golden State is filled with more than just sunny weather, movie stars, and Disneyland. Did you know that the employees of Silicone Valley have a fight club? Or how about the scrapper bike community in Oakland?

So what is ‘California is a Place’?

In a nutshell : very short & beautifully shot documentaries about the little stories of California that many people may be unaware of.

California is loaded. From Disneyland to farmland, we’ve got Scientology and superstars, Silicon and silicone, crips and bloods. The border. Krumpin’ Clownin’ Jerkin’. The surf and the turf. The boom and the bust. California is humanity run amuck and then packaged, branded and sold. California Cuisine, California Love, California Casual, California Gold, California Girls, and of course, California Dreams. If it exists in the world, it exists here and it does so with pizzaz.

Obviously, we love this stuff. That’s why we’re doing this project. Simply put, California is sensational. And the closer we look the better it gets: words and images, stories and songs, opinions and ideas. This project is ongoing. We hope you like what you see and say so. We plan to post often. So until that day, when we finally float off into the Pacific, California is a place. Stay tuned.

Visit their website : http://californiaisaplace.com/cali/ and take a look at the stories ranging from sex doll makers, border patrol minute-men, and mariachi musicians.
