Divorcee forges wifes account for insurance

MYSORE: Years after divorce, a man has claimed the insurance benefits of his wife by forging her bank account.

Roopashree has accused her former husband Ravichandra of cheating her of Rs 3-lakh insurance amount. The incident came to light after she got a message from a private insurance company about maturity of her bond. Shock was in store for Roopashree, mother of two, when she went to the insurance office to complete the procedures. She was told that the amount was transferred to her account.

Enquiries revealed that the amount was deposited in some other womans account.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that Ravichandra of Nidaghatta of Maddur taluk in Mandya district obtained the money by fraud.

He opened a bank account in Roopashrees name by producing another woman as his wife. Ravichandra is absconding. Devaraja police said the couple had married in 1992 but it ended in a divorce some years ago.
