Louisiana Agent Arrested for Alleged Insurance Fraud

A Metairie, La., insurance agent has been arrested for insurance fraud, state officials say.

The Louisiana State Police Insurance Fraud/Auto Theft Unit arrested Angela Bodenheimer, 49, on one count of insurance fraud, the Louisiana Department of Insurance reports.

LDI Fraud Section Investigators also served Bodenheimer with a with a six month license suspension and a $1000 fine notice. Read the rest of this entry »

Auto insurance fraud and staged accidents workshop

Florida Insurance Consumer Advocate Robin Westcott is holding the second of three meetings today to develop legislation to fight personal injury protection insurance fraud.

Several speakers and a panel of insurance company representatives, attorneys and health care professionals plan to discuss the types of health care clinics that perpetuate fraud, billing or payment processing issues that could be changed to reduce fraud and how the alternative dispute resolution process can be improved to reduce lawsuits. Mississippi: 7 plead guilty to insurance fraud

Seven people have pleaded guilty to charges of insurance fraud involving the State and School Employees Health Insurance Plan.

The pleas were entered Friday and Monday in Rankin County Circuit Court. Charges are pending against seven others.

Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Mississippi administers the health plans for the state.

An indictment alleged three Blue Cross/Blue Shield employees processed claims for up to $44,000 to at least 11 state employees for reimbursement for medical procedures that never occurred. Read the rest of this entry »

4th-grade teacher charged with insurance fraud

 State investigators arrested a Gwinnett County school teacher and charged her with insurance fraud.

Doshia Mears was listed as a fourth-grade teacher on the website of Anderson Livsey Elementary School in Snellville.

She has been charged with fraudulently receiving more than $12,700 from disability “while gainfully employed by Gwinnett County Schools,” according to an arrest warrant obtained by Channel 2 Action News.

Gwinnett County school officials said Mears has not been in the classroom this school year, as she is currently on medical leave.

Gwinnett officials confirmed Mears was hired in August 2010, when the arrest warrant alleges the fraud began. Read the rest of this entry »
