Auto insurance fraud and staged accidents workshop

Florida Insurance Consumer Advocate Robin Westcott is holding the second of three meetings today to develop legislation to fight personal injury protection insurance fraud.

Several speakers and a panel of insurance company representatives, attorneys and health care professionals plan to discuss the types of health care clinics that perpetuate fraud, billing or payment processing issues that could be changed to reduce fraud and how the alternative dispute resolution process can be improved to reduce lawsuits.

Personal injury protection, or PIP, pays medical bills for policyholders injured in auto accidents, regardless of which driver is at fault. It’s intended to protect Floridians who don’t have health insurance and to avoid lawsuits and their costs for minor injuries. Florida drivers are required to carry $10,000 worth of coverage.
